Kitchen chairs. So. Much. Pretty!

I bought these two chairs from Goodwill at two different times.  I paid $4.99 for one, and less than $10 (can't remember exactly how much) for the other.  I plan on decorating my kitchen in a coca-cola theme one day, so b/c these chairs were so ugly, I decided to go ahead and re-do them.

I had originally planned to put the second chair in my craft room, so I was going to paint it multiple colors.  I changed my mind when I sold my kitchen chairs.  :)  Glad I did!  I love how it turned out!!

Maria's Guitar--That I ALMOST Kept

So, I made this clock for my brother a couple of Christmases ago.  He is majoring in Classical Guitar at the Schwob School of Music of Columbus State University.  (Wow, that's a mouthful.)  We're all very proud of him.  *sniff*

He was in some big competition the summer before I gave him the clock, and he placed, or got second, or something.  I can't keep up.  Anyway, it was a big deal.  We're all very proud of him.  *sniff*

So, I saw this idea on one of the blogs I follow:  My Repurposed Life.  She took an old, beat up guitar that she found on the side of the road and turned it into a clock.  It was pretty stellar, and I immediately thought of my wee brother when I saw it. 

I did mine slightly different.  I used a child-size guitar that my parents had bought for my youngest brother that never worked well.  I painted the tuning pegs the same bright red as the clock hands and guitar picks.  I also used the sheet music from his competition.  But it's pretty much the same thing.

He took it to school with him, and he got all kinds of compliments on it, and one of his friends wanted to buy one.  He and his buddies ended up buying one from me for her birthday.  When I asked him what colors she would like he said, "I dunno.  Light colors.  No Pink."  Ok.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE how this one turned out!  I liked his, but this one is more feminine and girlie.  Check it:

I painted the "head" (I don't really know all the technical terms of the guitar parts) and the clock face a pretty sea-green color.  The tuning pegs, the "neck/fret board," (whatev) and the clock hands I painted the same goldish/copperish/metalic tan color.  The sides and back of the body are aqua blue.  

I used an old, scratched up CD for the clock face.  I modpodged (which is decoupage with Mod Podge glue) the sheet music to her favorite song to the front of the body.  I cut out the name of her song and put it in the 12 o'clock position on the clock face.  My mom cut out the fancy music notes on her fancy Cricut machine (THANKS MOM!), and dad cut the hole in the guitar a little bigger so I could fit the clock mechanism into it (THANKS DAD!).  I had to use a washer to screw the clock mechanism to the CD b/c the CD hole is too big, so I also modpodged a little sheet music to cover the ugly washer. Turned out perfect!   I used Velcro to attach the clock face to the guitar so the batteries can be changed easily.

How adorable is that??  I really like how it turned out.  With my brother's, I didn't like how the clock face disappeared b/c of all the sheet music.  Since I painted the CD on this one, it really makes it pop!  I also like the music notes better than the guitar picks that I used on my brother's.  The guitar picks were cool on his, but these add a little bit of a feminine touch.

My FABULOUS New Chair!!!

OK.  So, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!  About a month and a half ago, I came across this ad on Craigslist for this GORGEOUS chair! Unfortunately, the lady was asking $400.00 for this chair!!  I knew that, of course, I could not afford it.

So I went to look at in anyway.  I know, I know.  I'm not very bright.  Glutton for punishment.  I was asking for it.  Yeah, whatever.

I figured it couldn't hurt to just take a look and make her an offer.  I fell in love with it!  I told her I would be willing to pay $200 (which, honestly, is still a LOT for me, but, hey, I haven't bought nice furniture for my house, like EVER!  And this chair was perfect -almost- for my craft room and it's in perfect condition.  Newly re-upholstered!).  She said, no, she really wanted $400 for it.  I said, "Ok.  I'm sure you will get what you are asking for, but if for some reason you can't sell it, please keep my number if you're willing to come down."  I left knowing for darn sure I would never hear from this lady again.

I was wrong!  :)  She called me two days ago and said she still had the chair and was willing to come down.  AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!  So, needless to say, I borrowed my dad's truck and went to pick it up yesterday after work!

Isn't it BEAUTIFUL!?!?  I LOVES it!

I'm more of a silver than gold person, so I'm not crazy about the gold-painted wood.  I'm planning on repainting it a metallic brown color that I've used in other parts of my craft room.  This is going in my craft room, and the colors are PER-FECT!  (other than the gold, of course)

And get this!  There's more!  I was running late yesterday morning, so I thought about not using my dad's truck b/c I didn't want to take the time to trade vehicles with him for the day.  And it had been raining a lot here lately, and I didn't have the means to cover the chair once I picked it up if it started raining on my way home.  BUT. . . I said, NO!  I'm gonna go get the truck and just pray it doesn't rain!  And it's a good thing I did, too!  When I got there, the lady's husband said, "Well, we actually have two chairs.  We'll give you the second one for free if you want it, b/c it has a broken leg."  . . .

My first instinct was to screech "WHAAAAAAT!?!" at him, but I refrained and calmly said, "Free?  Um, sure, I'll take it."

It is sad that it's broken, but I'm not worried about it at all.  It's in the back left corner (which is the exact leg that's going into the corner of the room), so for now I'm just going to have my dad set it on a block of wood or something.  One day, when I've recouped from the expense (still can't believe I spent $200 on CHAIRS!), I'll take it in to a furniture store and see if they can replace it.  So I got two for the price of half!  Hehehe!

Just goes to show that good things really do come to those that wait!  Patience is not one of my stronger virtues, so I'm pretty impressed with myself!  ;)  I've been looking for a chair for my craft room for so long!  I knew this would be the perfect chair, but I so wasn't going to spend $400.00 on one chair!

So I didn't.

And I love it!

My latest project-FINISHED!!!

So, I've been working on this project lately.  A lot.  For a VERY long time.  It's been a big learning process, I've spent too much money, and it was all so worth it!  Check it out!

How CUTE is that!?!  I had so much fun with it!  Here's what I did:

I started by decoupaging a different coordinating paper to each drawer.  It took two pieces of scrapbook paper to cover the drawers, and since I was planning on using ribbon to cover the seams anyway, I just left gap in the middle where the knobs go.

I used these adorable pink glass knobs from Hobby Lobby, and I wanted them to really stand out, so I decoupaged ribbon over gap in the paper.  It's hard to tell in the picture, but the ribbon is a dark brown color with blue thread running down each side.  The little bit of blue in the ribbon pulls the drawers together a little bit more since none of these papers have blue in them.  The ribbon serves many purposes, and it's cute!

Then I put on my ripped up, faded, old jeans and started sanding. 

I sanded, and sanded, and sanded.  (My first project like this-didn't know how much or how little I needed to sand.  So I just sanded until I felt like being done with the thing.)  Thanks for that sander, Dad!

I painted the door blue, and then distressed and aged (?) it with wood stain.  You can see the difference in color where I didn't cover the middle with stain.  I love how the colors turned out!

Once I finished with the painted part of the door, I decoupaged a final piece of coordinating scrapbook paper to the front of the door, and decoupaged a wider version of the same ribbon I used on the drawers to frame the paper.  I only had two pieces of each paper, and it would have taken at least four to cover the door like I did the drawers.  So I improvised.  This paper is where the blue comes in.  I used wood putty to fill in the hole where the original knob was, and sweetly asked my dear dad to drill a new hole for me in the top right corner where the ribbon crossed.

At this point, my puppy was feeling pretty neglected.  He kept trying to entice me to come play with him.  So I did.  How could you say no to this face?

Then I painted the cabinet 4 different colors to match the colors in the paper.  I painted the sides pink, the top green, the front (behind the drawers and door) tan, and the trim blue (the same color as the door). When I got to the piece of trim at the bottom of the cabinet, Bently (the dog) decided he just couldn't resist the temptation any more.  He came up the freshly painted piece and THUNK-he nose was blue.  He had blue paint on his face for a while.

I distressed and stained it the same way I did the door.  I don't recommend doing this in your living room.  It stinks.  And I got stain on my favorite pair of socks.  I didn't have much choice, though, since I'd rather do this in my living room and fight off the dog and cats than do this out in the dark garage and fight off of mosquitoes and other bugs.

Finally, I sealed it all, added the knobs, and reassembled the whole sha-bang.  LOVE IT!!!  It's going in my craft room which is decorated in these colors.  Once I get the whole room done, I'll put pictures up of that, too!
